A Brief History of Hialeah, FL

Hialeah, the Seminole word for "High Prairie" was once lush with grassy plains that were inhabited by the native Indians. However, the prairie was soon discovered by the pioneer aviator Glenn Curtiss and Missouri cattleman James H. Bright, and was soon marked as the start of a new beginning. Hialeah was often labeled as the "party city" due to the bountiful mounts of entertainment that included sports like greyhound racing, and more media-reflected entertainment like silent movies. However, the large hurricane of 1926 managed to destroy many of the great achievements that the natives of this city sought so hard to establish.
